Wine Ophelia Wednesday – Chamisal 2011 Stainless Chardonnay

Uhhhh… Better late than never?

I received a few samples from Chamisal last year after a fantastic online event. I was feeling stainless/unoaked chardonnay today so this was a perfect choice for today’s Wine Ophelia post.

2011 Chamisal Stainless Chardonnay – no oak

Very pretty straw yellow color. Pronounced stone fruits, particularly apricot and white peach and some notes of white flowers on the nose. The apricot continues on the palate as does a floral note, but more of honeysuckle. It has a slightly heavier mouthfeel than I’d prefer, probably malo. This is a heady, fruity chardonnay, showing some very delightful characteristics. My only wish would be no malo on this one, but it should appeal to many. Overall, I’m pleased. I’d pair this with some mild to medium savory cheeses and lighter/lightly seasoned meats.
